ROOM 305 CHANGED MY LIFE

FFF CHALLENGE

The FFF Challenge is what GBYRBK calls our Fantastic Photo Fridays. This is a contest between all of our staff. We are given a challenge like light, objects, emotion, and have to tie those things into a photo that is shown on a Friday for the class to critique. After seeing all the photos, the staff chose 5-8 photos that will be made into posters. I have only ever lost one FFF challenge. But this is not about winning, it's about seeing how your work affects people. I got to see the negative and positives about putting your work out there for the first time. And now I know what it takes to be brave enough to show your work.

PHOTO STUDIO

Having your own program’s studio was a dream to me. My staffer year, we shared a studio with the Digital Media Arts class at school. We had an idea to start a studio. Then my first year as an editor became a reality. The photo Management editors started the studio. And this year I followed in their footsteps. With getting the studio actual studio lights and a backdrop I learned from a professional how a studio should run. We have made guides and taught the staff how to use it. I have worked with almost every staffer one on one to get them to understand the studio. We have also put poses on the wall to inspire the staff every time they enter the studio, not to mention making the door a statement piece as well.

STAFF CHECK-IN SHEET

Our staff has always had a check-in system to download cameras onto our network. As we used the system we found flaws, I improved the sheet to make it more specific and help the photo team download. I added columns like who downloaded what camera which keeps the photo team more organized. Also adding a column to see if the camera was charged to ensure there was always a camera for staffers to use.

INTERNSHIP

This past summer I had the opportunity of an internship with Steve Ragland, a photographer who has taken photos at the Grammys, and done photoshoots with actors like Ava Michelle and Joel Steingold. I was able to learn one on one with him about the importance of being a photographer in the real world. I learned how to use basic items to enhance photos, how to manipulate light in a studio, and understanding light temperature. I got to see what I could become if I put my all into Photography.

ART SHOW

My sophomore year I entered the photo below in the school art show. Not thinking anything of it at the time. I was just doing all I could to put my work out into the world. I ended with the art show’s Photography category and seeing once again what it's like to put my work out for judgement.

SENOIR HEADSHOTS

My senior year I took part in a project for our yearbook. We took senior portraits for all seniors that still needed them. Working with three other photo editors, we photographed and edited over 40 headshots. Giving up or lunchs and staying after school was no match for the bigger impact we were making. Giving seniors that moment at the end of the year seeing their headshot in our yearbooks senior section.

CHECK-IN CHECK-OUT VIDEO

We start off the year with Yearbook Boot Camp. Its weeks of learning what it means to be a journalist. The Photo Team is in charge of the Photo part of Boot Camp. We teach the staff how to shoot in manual, photo competition, and all things photography. This year the photo team decided to make a video about how to check-in and check-out cameras. This is the final product of our hard work.
